G'day fella's Just want to get some info on the Nissan VH45DE out of the Infiniti Q45

Look to use in project, and just wanted to know if anyone has had a tinker with one of these.

Wondering are there any off the shelf aftermarket options in the way of rods, cams and some pistons that drop the comp to make it a little more turbo friendly, either in Aus or abroad.

Also are they an Alloy block?? any info much appreciated

pretty sure they are alloy, i remember reading a few years ago on a 300zx forum that some1 in states was building a really though one. so the parts are there.
think Ben (GTR510) could shed some more light, he drives one.

I have an ADM Q45 infiniti which is a 93/94 model. This is the model of motor you want (lets call it a series 2) as the earlier 89 - 92 motor had design floor in relation to the timing chain guide. It was plastic and became brittle, broke up and ended up going through the motor.

They were supposed to have 206kw but the word is they have around 225 - 230kw. Mine did 150rwkw on the dyno and assuming at least 1/3 loss through the auto 225kw is spot on. When nissan were first testing this engine for the infiniti it made over 260kw and they tamed it down, IE the headers are VERY small with the outlet being less then 1.5 inches. Mine is also running very rich and showed 10:1 AFR's on the dyno. Talking to the owner of the dyno shop he was adamant I would see well over 200rwkw but doing the exhaust and installing an AFM adjuster.

I'll summarise what I understand regarding performance mods. Number 1 these things are built very tough, massive main bearings and 6 bolt mains. Allegedly adjusting one of the cam gears by one tooth (either side) gains mega_shok.gif+ kilowatts. As I have never seen it in practice it could be internet bullshit.

You don't need to lower the CR to turbo them. Properly tuned and running low boost well over 500hp is available. I personally thing that running 2 x 2871r's or even 2 x S15 BB T28's would potentially be a cost effective method of upping the HP rather then trying to go all out with NA motor. Check out the patrol link below

Nispro in melbourne do alot of work with these things and there is youtube vid of there 1500hp turbo ski boat running flat out.

Next datsun meet/cruise I can take you for a spin in mine if you want get a feel for them.

Cheers for the info, I'll take you up on that offer.

The comparisson with the 1UZ was good to as that was the other motor i was thinking of.

that speed boat is sick, I just want that motor in the shell I've found

Couple of pics. Also if you are thinking of dropping one in a 260c or similiar, just bare in mind this won't be an easy task at all. A mate in NZ is putting a VH41 into his 4 door pillarless cedric and he is making a complete custom front crossmember and steering.

Some of the custom crossmember stuff;

There was a guy on here called ezekial that put a VH45de+t into a gazelle, went in with only custom engine mounts, I tried to find his post but looks like his user account was erased from the old forums.

hey guys, have any of you seen an Infinity FX45?
I was privelaged to drive one of these in the states. they are awesome. and have a later moder 4.5l engine. the whole car is a bit of an awesome small sized pimp mobile! I had a plan to import an VQ45DE from the nismo boys for my 180b.. hahahaha, I am a dreamer. but I can say that the Nissan V8s are a sweet engine and can produce some sweet sound and power.

I believe Nismo make a range of bolt on go fast bits too.

They are a great thing, no question but here is my 2 cents worth. Buy a 2nd hand Ls1/2 motor (2 valve, pushrod dinosaur and it kills me to suggest it) and slot that into a 240z. Easy 270rwkw with an exhaust, OTRI and tune and very compact and parts are everywhere.

With the VH45 being the size of a 496 bb chev its make life hard when attempting any conversion.

i said dreams, so unless i win powerball will never happen.

and i could never bring myself to destroy a Z with a damn chevy. be a fate worse then death for the poor car.

am very interested also if the project takes off.

I was out at SSS Automotive picking up an SR20DET package for someone who's seen the light ;-) and I saw Sideshow working on an AC Cobra replica with 6L LS2 engine in it - very nice!!!! Sidey says you can get brand new LS2s direct from Holden as crate motors (with loom and ECU I think?) for under 5 grand - pretty good I reckon.

i reckon these blokes >> http://www.nizpromarine.com.au/the_engine.html will be able to assist with modified nissan v8's. Guaranteed 1500 hp and mega_shok.gif% of the max torque available at 2500rpm.
