a project car to work on. Most of the rust has gone. Interior needs a tidy. Going to be great for summer drives, and maybe a winter hoon with the roof up!
From the advert. Things that Andy did before I bought it off him. Nice bloke too.
1967 and a half Datsun 1600 Sports (Fairlady)
I first found "The Phoenix" 4 years ago sitting in a shed on the NSW South Coast, where she had spent the last 20 years indoors, only coming out for a drive on weekends, never registered. Since then have performed a bunch of work to get her back on the road again, and continuous improvements once running. Some of the work includes:
New Firewall and floorpan - The original was so thin that in the event of an accident I would have had issues, so all is now reinforced. Also moved the seats back slightly at this point(I'm about 6'1", so it was tight before!) New brake system - New brake lines, discs, drums, reconditioned cylinder, etc. The whole lot done. Undercarriage resealed New carpet New cooling system New shocks, rubbers New engine mounts Head checked for minor cracks with 1 found and properly repaired Rust cut out and repaired (not bogged). Skyline 5 speed installed (much better on the freeway now) Much more. Consequently she is now much more reliable, much safer, and easy to live with day to day.
Also comes with hardtop, tonneau cover, roll bar (not fitted, never raced).
Cosmetically there is still work to be done, as with any car of this age. But as you can see from the shots she's still quite beautiful, and would suit someone looking to drive now and fix up little bits on their weekends. As she stands she would provide a great fun summer car with far better reliability than you could ever hope for from an MG or Triumph. According to someone from the Datsun Sports Owners club, this particular model, the 1967 1600 Low-Windscreen was one of only about 17 to come to Australia, so it's value is sure to rise significantly with time.
Work done so far:
New oil and filer Replacement horn and earth straps Radiator flush new spare tyre fixed washer bottle system
