!datsun Sr1600!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, this is my 1600 project.

The plan is to put a S13 SR20det 5spd in with top mount T28, R180 3.9 LSD, remove a few locks, remove roof gutters,

remove spare wheel well and put drop tank in its place( nothing huge, small and hidden)

all round adjustable suspension would be nice. make a new dash from scratch, re trim in leather, put some A/C in.

Want this to be a quick Sunday driver, but could use it if I want to do some track days etc..

any ideas/comments are welcome

So here is how I bought it, bit rough but licensed and running (short distances)

i started to strip it down but removing paint with a grinder takes a long time so i sent it to be soda blasted.

Have always wanted to this mod!! looks great.

Any tips on removing the gutter?

I know there are sections of the gutter where there are multiple layers of metal that need welding together?

theres two layers pinched together and the bottom layer folds up to make the gutter,

To do it cut the gutter off 300mm at a time (stops it warping) and spot weld all the way along then grind back closer and repeat process.

fully weld it and clean up with grinder.

didnt use any filler doing this.

Hi

This is the first time i've seen this post and im sure everyone who has read this thread is keen to see more. Nice job so far mate.

How did you go with the top section of the s13 seat?

I'm fitting an S15 seat at the moment and it looks like i will have to add foam to the sides of the top section to increase the width of the seat. I think this is the best way to go otherwise the seat belts will fall in the gap between the seat and body.

Also have you cut down the height of the top section?

Cheers

I only had to cut the edges off in a ark like i showed in the photo. it fits in no prob. i didn't cut the foam (yet), just the steel backing.

when i get to trimming the interior prob wont need to add any foam to the back seat, but i might cover the wheel arch with a separate piece.
