So as title says its about time i put up a build on my crapbox datto.

Its been so long since i did most of it so i might have to make some of it up.

Its in this section because its never going to be a finished car.

I've been in the SDC since the late 90's and have had a few 510's. The one before this i completely rebuilt and painted. I guess thats what you do when your

young. But once that was done and i put it on the track i got the bug for going round corners as fast as possible. My problem was i never had any money, and still to this day dont have any money.

So, i bought this car in 2002 for $700 with a burnt out L18. The car was strait and pretty rust free. For a few hundred i had it running and regoed it on 5/10/2002 just before the Sydney Nationals. I managed to put in some 200b struts and 4 spot callipers the day before Oran park.

Anyway after that i saved up all my pennies and bought a ca18de from Jeff (who it looks like just bought 1 back himself) for a few hundred and put that in.

Back to the poor side of things, i have done all the work on this car myself, including the likes of reversing the xmember etc etc

By this stage ide probably done all the usual Datto upgrades. Headlights, rear disks etc.

At some stage i got my hands on a ca18det 180sx halfcut for $1600. Cant say no to that price.

Once i put that in i put up a few pics and blurb on Turbophile

Andrew's CA18DET Datsun 1600

So between whenever that was, 2004 maybe, and now the rough specs are:

ENGINE:

Forged ACL and SPOOL CA18DET

HD Exedy clutch

standard CA18DET 5 speed

720cc Denso injectors

GT28R

CA18DET exhaust cam on inlet side

Home made adj cam gears

Nistune

E85

RB20 AFM

Surge tank with 090 hp pump

Saab 500*400*35 FMIC

REAR END:

3" tailshaft with ford v8 uni's

Cima R200 VLSD

custom axles and cv's

R31 brakes RB76 pads

1000lb springs

Gabriel shortened shocks

Adjustable swaybar

-1 camber

2 deg toe in

FRONT END:

200b struts shortened to suit z31 koni yellows

Adjustable height coilovers

300lb springs

300mm Supra rotors

S4RX7 callipers

RB76 pads

7/8 master

Wilwood rear prop valve

Adjustable control arms

Torana Radius rods

Offset strut tops

-2.5 camber

+5 and 5.5 castor

1deg toe out

Probably heaps more of the usual stuff...

Ill post some pics soon, not that its much to look at

No idea what power it makes as ive done all the tuning myself, but with the E85 it feels very strong. Ide have a stab at ~200 rwkw

Ill get out to the drags for another go pretty soon.

Just managed a 1.10.6 at wakefield after sorting out some diff issues earlier in the year.

Cheers Tyrie, you probably need to do a bit to your fuel system. I have read so many conflicting peices of 'info'.

But all i did was put bigger injectors in, put in a 2 way ball balve after the HP pump to drain the tank if need be and changed the fuel filters a few times after running it for a while then tune it.

Some pics

At the drags 12.9@106 when i first put it in. Open 3.9 t25g

Hey ladies. Time for a quick update on my shitbox.

Since last post i went out to the dargs. Managed a 12.5@117 with a 2.18 60'. Did a few 12.5's and a few 12.6's but couldnt get off the line.

Anyway ive been stockpiling a few parts and the head gasket blew probably at the drags so i pulled it out and stripped it for Bathurst.

Well the head studs i ordered from USA didnt arrive in time so regretably i missed the Bathurst weekend. BOOOOOO

Anyway the studs arrived on the Friday so i had the weekend to put the motor back together and put some new bits on.....

Did all that and went around the block for a test run and the sump was leaking a shitload.

SO after dropping the xmember and finding out the mighty CA needs to have the flywheel removed for the sump to come off i got the shits and it all sat there for a few weeks...or months...

Anyway i pulled the motor back out and pulled the sump off, it had sealant, but i guess not enough. Put the motor back in and its all go again finally.

Been off the road for nearly 3 months. Anyway im just taking it easy for a few weeks to bed the clutch in.

The new bits included.

ARP head stud kit.

New engine mounts.

New Exedy button clutch.

GT2871R .64 52t.

Z32 MAF.

044 fuel pump.

Adjustable strut tops.

2 225/50/15 and 2 205/50/15 Kumho v700's. 2nd hand 50% tread with another set coming.

Set of flares (in transit somewhere).

So i havent tried fitting the tyres yet, ill get to that when the flares arrive.

I havent tuned it yet as im waiting a bit for the clutch to bed before hitting boost.

Mate im going to struggle to get there on the 11th too. Im probably going to aim for the 18th now.

The car is still in bits from my shitty flare job. Need to fix front main oil leak, get a wheel alignment, fit some 1000cc injectors, fit new ls2 coils and tune it.

Fucked my back the other day, stupid 620... so havent had any time on it.

Time is indeed running out...

I went on saturday for a run, timer didnt work and heaps of traffic but by the end of the day it felt pretty good. V700s took a good 3 sessions to lose their slipperyness (were already shaved and heat cycled) but after that felt pretty good and offer heaps better feedback than the R888. I have it going for a tune thisafteroon then hopefully all I need is new fluids and a spanner check :D

I have revised my expectations to 1:11s at datnats, I dont feel as confident in the car as I used to, been spending too much time driving the missus' micra, which I honestly feel I could drive quicker in the hillclimb than the 1600 lol

Quick pre-nats update.

Finally got the car back on the road after the guard masacre job i did.

I put some ID1000cc injectors in and LS2 coils while it was garaged.

Finally got some decent weather today so its all one colour again.

Havent tuned it yet, i will probably do that on the drive down.

Also got a wheel allignment with the new tyres.

I sort of forgot that with the extra tyre height i would be lowering it quite alot and when i made the rear guards to fit the tyres i didnt leave much room for camber adjustment. dickhead...

So new settings are

Front:

-4 camber

+5.5 caster LHS

+5.0 Caster RHS

1mm toe out each side

Rear:

1mm toe in each side

-2.5 camber boooo

Turns in very hard and flat, feels awesome

Sorry for the worst photo's in the world... iphone has dust on the inside of the lens... you get the idea

For anyone that cares the second pic is 510kb!
